The Fun of Ring Games: A Guide
Ring games involve any poker games where chips are used as real money or have a cash value attached to each different color chip. Typically, there is no end time for these games.
Most other poker games have either a set end time or when there is only one player left then the game is over. With ring games, the game keeps going and going and players are allowed to enter the game or leave the game whenever they would like.
There are, however, some rules when getting in and out of the poker game. If a player runs out of money in the middle of a hand from betting, they cannot place more money on the table until that round of play is over.
Ring games are different then most poker games in that most have a definite start and end and usually if there is real money involved then the highest amount of money to be won is what set amount is determined by the tournament.
Each chip does not have a real money value assigned to it but whoever has the most chips at the end of the tournament and becomes the winner will get whatever the tournament winnings amount is.
Ring games are very similar to tournament games but they have some distinct differences. Anyone who plays tournament games will not have a hard time picking up how to play ring games.
One big difference to remember is with betting. Like most other poker games, in Ring games there are blind bets. Blind bets are bets that must be made at the beginning of each game. These bets are typically made by the first two people to the left of the person who is being the dealer.
There is a small blind bet and then there is a large blind bet. The small blind bet is typically about half the amount of the large blind bet. For example, in a ring game, you may see the large blind bet be one dollar. The small blind will then most likely be .50, noted in some sort of designated poker chips.
In ring games, the blind bets will stay whatever the designated amount is throughout the entire game. Usually in tournament games, Texas Hold 'Em or other poker games, the large and small blind antes are raised as the game goes on to increase the excitement of the game being played.
Ring games also have limit and no limit variations of its game. With Limit Ring Games, there is typically a maximum number of raises that can be made during a round played. With No Limit Ring Games, however, there is no limit on the number of times that a raise can be made during a round.
There are also ring games out there that are not played with real money. These would be great for a novice poker player who wants to better his poker skills and betting knowledge before jumping in to a real game and possibly losing some hard earned money.
Ring games as well as tournament games and other games are also found online. These are another great way to "practice" and develop your skills at poker. There is a lot of thought, strategy and thinking that goes into the game, so it is important to feel like you know what you are doing when you sit down to a poker table to play a game.
Online ring games can be found at many poker sites on the World Wide Web. In some games, you will be playing with a computer person. Most poker players find that is it more competitive and enjoyable to play online with other "live" people who are playing as well. Most online ring games are continuous as people come in and out of the online game as they wish. There never really is an end with a new game starting over.
One thing about ring games that can get frustrating to players, especially those who have been in the same game for a long time is when players come in and out of the game. Obviously, to enter the game you have to put down a certain amount of money. This is called the "buy in." Depending on how large the game and the players playing this could be a small amount or a very large amount of money.
When cashing out, a player decides that they will be walking away from the game. This obviously cannot occur in the middle of a round. (Such as a round that person is losing.) The player has to wait for play to be over and a winner of that round has been claimed. At that time, a person can cash out and collect whatever money is equal to the amount of chips they have.
Learn the game, strategize and have fun making some money with this exciting poker game!
