Strategies to Playing the Game
One of the most important things to consider when playing the game is whether you want to play or fold pre flop. Most newbies waste money calling or betting pre flop with no hope of winning, the best way to increase your possible wins is to have a great pre flop hand before betting. The best playable starting hands include:
- The Pocket Pair: This gives you the possibility of creating high pair, three and four of a kind as well as a full house. (Ex. AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99, 88, 77, 66, 55, 44, 33, 22)
- A, K, Q, J, 10 and another card suited: With this you have an opportunity to make a high pair, high three of a kind, or a flush or straight. The ones you should definitely keep are the ones with an Ace or King.
- A, K, Q, J, 10 and another card unsuited: The rule is to only play this card if your unsuited cards equal 21.
The best strategy for playing the hand is to ensure that there is a possibility of your winning. You can take chances that you may win anyway with unplayable cards but why risk your bank roll on a hand that potentially will lose the hand causing you to have a lower cash amount for the hand that will give you the big payout. Having a great starting hand gives you the potential to make a great amount of money quickly and knowing which ones are unplayable is the best way to keep yourself from making foolhardy mistake that could cause you to lose the game.
If you do flop you should also have a strategy on how to play after you have received your flop cards. If you have flopped you should:
- Overcards: Call if you feel you have the backdoor draw or if you have high pot odds. Fold if that is not a possibility.
- Top Pair with a High Kicker: Bet or raise on this hand, and if you feel really strongly about it, raise on this hand again.
- Middle or Bottom Pair: Fold if a lot of people are staying in the game, as they too may have a higher pair than you.
- Two Pair: If you have a pair and you see a pair on the flop you will want to bet or raise or call on this hand.
- Pair on your board: If you see there is a pair on the board, fold unless you have one of that rank or if you have a pair in your hand.
- Three of a kind: Raise and Raise again
Remembering these few strategies will help you when you are at a flop and don't know what you should do, and all of the strategies will help make you a better player and win more often. These are the basic strategies to make a new player a winning player.
